This poem was composed following my spiritual awakening…

The sound of chanting that I once heard, and the voice of someone special to me, has ignited a deep awareness of life beyond this physical state.

No matter how near or how far, wherever I may be……..I feel a sense of freedom for I am being connected to my higher spiritual self.

Haunting Melody

Your haunting melody, how you have stirred me so

Claiming my heart, and arousing my soul

None other places that I would rather flow

Lullaby that you sang, rocking me to sleep

Accompany with our emotions, intense and so steep

Your voice beckoning to me, across the mountains and sea

Swiftly approaching me, here to set me free….!

Mandy Mui: Born to a Vietnamese mother and a Chinese father, have lived in many different cities and countries. It does not matter what I do, but how I do it- that is important in life. At an early age, I have questioned about life beyond this physical state, and the goal in life is to reach ultimate spiritual development – the Truth. STILL I RISE by Maya Angelou

Six years ago, I had the privilege of listening to Maya Angelou speak live on the value of poetry at the University of Florida. I share these reflections with you again today, in honor of her birthday. I was relieved to get one of the last seats available for this rare event, having arrived at five for Maya Angelou ’s free speech at eight. The historically long line began with people settled into beach chairs in winter coats busying themselves on tablets, or eating sandwiches for dinner. As helicopters hovered above and newscasters below, I felt the excitement of realizing that thousands of people were gathering together to hear an eighty four year old black woman recite her poetry!
