Journey of the Heart

For me, music, much like poetry, is all about surrender… Pictured is Yasmeen Anima Olya  It is about healing and surrender. I am sure many musicians will agree with me that music is only truly something when we are blessed with that beautiful moment of surrender, the music wills itself into being, when we allow ourselves to relax into being an instrument for the music itself, it flows through us, not from us, much like spiritual poetry. When people come to me after a concert crying, the only thing I wish to say, but rarely have the courage to is this: “Your heart is asking you to surrender and heal in the light and love of the Divine...” This music is my longing for the Divine; it is my surrender. I am trying in my way, to surrender all of me in worship and in love to the eternal One, and for me this represents God or Allah. NOTE FROM EDITOR: Yasmeen left us in March of this year (2023). We are sharing these writings of hers from 2013 in remembrance of the beautiful person she was.  Behind all the work I do there is a simple message. It is a message of ‘wonder’... It is my intention to simply share my own wonder with the world. I believe that the human being's need for wonder is immense, and that through the experience of wonder the human being becomes grateful for their environment, we become in harmony with our existence and we open up. Ultimately for me everything is in a state of “being created” therefore we are a part of that creation: the atoms and molecules have not stopped their cosmic dance and we are a part of it. We are a part of that dance, cradled in the universal tide, we are as balanced as our realization allows.
