Romantic love can be a tricky thing… What you think will last a life time, suddenly shatters before your eyes, leaving you in a wake of devastation and lies. What brought me back to true love, unconditional love was the love of the Divine and learning how to love myself. My very first Valentine’s Day without my husband of 20 years, was expected to be difficult to say the least. However, when I woke up on February 14, 2012, my beautiful children left me flowers, loving cards, notes and candy on the counter by the coffee maker, telling me how much they love me. I embraced the shift from romantic love to a unique love with my family, friends, the world, and most of all myself. This is not to say I will never embrace romantic love again, I know it will come again to me someday. This poem was birthed to bring myself to self love on this romantic holiday and on every day that comes, to cover myself in light and grace. Let me be my Valentine by Maureen Kwiat Meshenberg ...
