THE MEMORY OF YOU by Kat Myrman

(In the United States, the month of October has been designated as " Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month" since 1988. Below, one of our poets shares her own experience) It’s a loss no one talks about… One where grieving is considered an indulgence. Well-meaning souls will try to console you by reminding you how blessed you are to have other children, or if you don’t, they’ll assuredly mention that it was all part of some divine plan, or for the best…nature’s way of protecting you from a less than perfect child…of course none of these things are of any comfort when a mother miscarries. I lost my child some 33 years ago in October. It wasn’t until this most recent nudge that I remembered that it was in October. We try to get on with life…to count our blessings, but we never forget. The void of tonight’s new moon simply reminds me that I’m not meant to forget. And that it’s okay to remember and to grieve. Photography by the author, Kat Myrman The Memor...

A BEAUTIFUL OBSESSION by Kat Myrman

I spend a great deal of time spinning words in the wee hours of the morning… It is partly due to my aging bladder, those nighttime trolls to the privy...but once I am up and about, it takes me a bit of time to settle back to sleep. I also find that I am at my most creative when the earth is dark and quiet. On one such morning recently as I lay reading to settle my mind, it struck me that my affair with words has been a lifetime obsession.  This poem is a love story. One that I believe we all share. Blessings to you! A Beautiful Obsession by Kat Myrman My love for you began
before I understood that
you would be a life-long
obsession. You wooed me
with promises of blissful
 release, and pledged to
sustain me, encouraging
me to use you whenever
I had need. You tickled
 my ears with sweet
 nothings, encouraging
 me to dance, to twirl
through lyrical dips and
 curves that left me
breathless and wanting
for more. You held nothi...

WHEN YOU ASK ME TO PRAY...THIS by Kat Myrman

When I wrote this poem I was considering the idea of prayer… How, all too often our prayers become a laundry list of requests for things to feed our selfishness and ego rather than communion with the Divine other and the realization that we are One.  When you ask me to pray…this… by Kat Myrman no ceaseless pleas for favors from a deity beyond, nor simple conversations ‘tween some small imagined voices, nor yearly rites of gluttony and sport peppered with thanks, no final utterance, eleventh hour recompense. a wisp of breath more subtle, effortless in present tense, embodying the senses in a dance of elements, where answers aren’t the aim and questions are irrelevant, this is the prayer I pray for you with utmost reverence.
