SHADOW OF A DOVE by Zoe Michael

(Editors note: Today begins National Suicide Prevention Week. The poems we feature this week are meant to contribute to raising awareness toward this cause. All are welcome to participate.)

This poem tells my story of a memory I revisited when I was five years old at a time when my father had recently committed suicide...

Shadow of a Dove is a poem I wrote just before the New Moon in Aquarius on the 28th January 2017. I felt I needed to release a consistent fear of rejection and abandonment that continued to reveal itself within my new relationship. The evening before the New Moon I asked my Angels to show me what this deep rooted insecurity was and what part of my inner child needed to be healed. After I re-lived a memory from the past and sobbed away the sadness attached to who I was in that very moment of being abandoned, I healed the little girl within me and came to a new peace within my soul.

The words of this poem journey through my inner child's trauma of suddenly losing a parent, her behaviours, her fears, her deep sadness and the questions in which she seeked answers for many years of her life. From the line "An innocent dove, freely flying", my inner child's healing takes place as the adult in me chooses to accept, forgive and come to peace with why her Father made the decision he did.

After writing this poem and healing through my child's (the Dove's) shadows of rejection and attachment, I am now in a place in my current relationship of total love and understanding. I feel whole and supported. I am confident in knowing I am adored, appreciated and worthy of being loved. I know that I have no need to fear my lover abandoning, ignoring or walking away from me.

Through this poem I intend to bring messages of hope and reassurance to those who have ever experienced a traumatic loss, resulting in feeling abandoned. Confront your inner child, heal the emotions attached to the experience and step into the reality of who you are now and know you can live the life you deserve. Always reassure your inner child that he or she is safe and loved - the result is powerful.

Shadow of a Dove

Ego attachment
Starting to rise
Fear of rejection
Battles with pride

Tears rolling
Emotions flowing
Mind questioning
Heart showing

A memory re-lived
Repeated rocking
Backwards, forwards
Clock watching

A desperate child
"Mumma" she cries
Soul sobbing
Monotone sighs

Filling the room
Darkness descends
Silent torture
It never ends

Recent heartbreak
Daddy's presence
In the sky

Why did he go?
Why did he leave?
Special little girl
Ridden with grief

Heart of steel
Undeniable courage
Wings of protection
Intuitive message

Healing welcomed
Safe and loved
Opening the cage
An innocent dove

Freely flying
Perfectly whole
Seeker of new
Forgiver of old

Ego detachment
Heart space living
Open receiver
Lover of giving

A peaceful child
"I love you" she hears
Adult reassuring:
"Let go of your fears"

IMAGINE A WOMAN by Patricia Lynn Reilly

This poem invites you to look upon yourself with loving kindness… Gazing at your own true reflection, you will discover that everything you have longed for “out there” is already within you! I invite you to love your creativity fiercely. Faithfully plant seeds, allowing under-the-ground dormant seasons, nurturing your creative garden with love and gratitude. In the fullness of time, the green growing things thrust forth from the ground. It's a faithful, trustworthy process. AND it takes time and patience.  Blessed is the fruit of your creative womb! I invite you to trust your vision of the world and express it. With wonder and delight, paint a picture, create a dance, write a book, and make up a song. To give expression to your creative impulses is as natural as your breathing. Create in your own language, imagery, and movement. Follow no script. Do not be limited by the customary way things have been expressed. Your creative intuition is original. Gather

FOR TARA by Penn Kemp

FOR TARA * Goddess of Compassion and Wisdom, I need to recall,  reclaim you, invite you to return to my heart. Come back  to my heart, Love, where you are home. There’s room.  There is room enough for two, for multitudes. For you.  Become me, I beg you. Worry my concern into peace.  Shake this rag doll out of stiff contrition back to joy.  Till bones, blood, marrow, mind all leap up to dance,  to expand and mingle with the greater Presence, gift  we are heir to if we remember to remember the Whole.  The whole that made us, not that hole I fall into.  From her celestial seat in the Pure Land, Tara smiles, extending a hand of pure blessing, her invitation. Up. Penn Kemp --poet, performer and playwright-- has been active in Canada’s literary scene since her first publication of poetry,  Bearing Down , by Coach House (1972). As well as editing Canada’s first anthology of women’s  writing,  IS 14  (1973), many of her books have been devoted to

IMBOLC by Caroline Mellor

The inspiration for this poem came after I watched a magical winter sunset and full moonrise from the top of Firle Beacon in the South Downs... Unusually for me, I wrote the poem quite quickly and changed it very little before publishing it – perhaps the energies were working through my pen! Imbolc is the mid-point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It’s a fire festival which I particularly love because of its associations with Brigid, the Celtic Mother Goddess of arts and crafts, clear sight, healing, inspiration and nurturance of creative talents – something which, through my writing, I am always trying to connect with.  I also love Imbolc because, with so much darkness and negativity in the world today, it is a time for hope, potential, visioning and initiation. With love and blessings as the light returns. Photography by Chanel Baran Imbolc by Caroline Mellor I am the dream of awakening. I am the returning of the light. I am the tough
