I’m seeking a way to live life as a better
person, and insights into what lessons I need to learn…
I have
studied A Course in Miracles, which teaches the viewpoint is that this life now
is all a dream and that the only reality is when we leave our mortal bodies. I’m
also a member of Unity Church and a seeker, and have explored many traditions,
and many nontraditional religions such as Science
of Mind and Spiritualism. Unity
has a strong belief that we create our own reality and that positivity is
rewarded with prosperity in mind, body and spirit.
As this
poem reflects some of these spiritual explorations of mine it turned into a
kind of mystical poem. It’s also a poem about writing: perhaps writing as a
method of spiritual cleansing.
Light Miracles
by Mary L. Westcott
The
light of miracles shines bright
in the
night sky, a flock of stars
move
in and out of gray-black clouds
and
the earth is fresh from new rain,
washed
in the baths of forgiveness.
We
live another day to dream in the dream,
to
wait for something we don’t know,
to let
the shoe drop on the mystery of life,
so
many versions, choose one and cling
to it,
raising up to full height
to see
the waves against the pale horizon,
the
leggy butterfly bush without a caterpillar,
the
damp monarchs ruing the season
of
thunderstorms.
A
light went on when the sun rose
and a
wise God whispered to me
in dreams.
The day was the same
but
not, it dove into the endless sea
of possibility
and produced lightning—
like insights
to change my life one
strike
at a time, those beside me pushing
the
pen along the page calling out: write,
write,
write the soul, the bones, the heart
write
the aches, the dying wishes,
the
sweet stories of success and joy,
write
the way to make life better,
to
absorb negative energy into
a tiny
white shell to be crushed under
the crashing waves.
