Though when I was younger I grappled with fear of death...
...as I have grown older, I have come to trust the grace of it; a promise of rest and being received back into the gentle arms of Mother Earth. I love that the celebration of the Feast of All Souls, in the Celtic and Catholic traditions, has been placed deep in Autumn, where we may contemplate the beauty of life's transforming and surrendering to Nature's benevolent cycles. This poem came from such contemplation.
Upon This Day Remembered
by Cheryl Anne
Caught up in
the cold cliche
of the difference
made by just one day
Taken by the tender way
the light is soft retreating
the cold cliche
of the difference
made by just one day
Taken by the tender way
the light is soft retreating
Likewise called
and hid from sight
From summer day
to winter night
Embracing darkened
moment’s might
Ambition’s pride deleting
and hid from sight
From summer day
to winter night
Embracing darkened
moment’s might
Ambition’s pride deleting
Walk We All
as Love Alone
in our shedding
greatly grown
Every tired tale
and bone
to the earth surrendered
as Love Alone
in our shedding
greatly grown
Every tired tale
and bone
to the earth surrendered
Work for rest
that is the goal
Life dismantles
to make whole
another speck,
a spark; a Soul
upon this day remembered.
that is the goal
Life dismantles
to make whole
another speck,
a spark; a Soul
upon this day remembered.

Cheryl Anne: As a very young girl, I discovered the magic of turning my observations and swirling thoughts and feelings into poems and songs. The love of language; spoken, sung, and written, and also the silent language of presence, has remained through all life's twists and turns. I am a lover and celebrant of the elements and seasons of the Heart and Soul, of Earth and Spirit; finding All Life to be sacred. I deeply enjoy the privilege of sharing my life with three beloved children and a few more than three beloved friends. Presently I work in the field of in-home elder care and companioning. My greatest joy is found in being with those I so dearly love, and in the embrace and beauty of Nature.
