This poem came out of a
meditation on my yoga practice…
And how vital it is to embrace the
fullness of our being.
Her Little and Bigger
Self
She is a wolf, not a downward facing dog.
She is an eagle, not a pigeon.
She is a tiger, not a cat.
Though she doesn't look down
upon the smaller versions of herself
because deep within she knows
she's all of them,
and that some days,
she is a downward facing dog, not a wolf.
She is a pigeon, not an eagle.
She is a cat, not a tiger.
Her teachers taught her
how to embrace the full spectrum,
of what it means to be both
her little and bigger self,
and she is learning.
Learning how to keep her head
high in the heavens,
her feet rooted in the dirt,
bringing heaven to hell
earth to sky
each time she unrolls
her mat.
