In
the New Testament, Jesus is recorded as having said “I am the Light of the
World”...
Less
well known is that he’s also recorded as having said,
“You
are the light of the world.”
This
makes me think on several levels – about who Jesus was, about who “The Christ”
is, about who and what I am…
It
also makes me think about our role – Jesus’ and mine, what the nature of light
is and about its properties. One thing seems clear to me: it’s not black and
white.
The
Light of the World
I
am the light of the world -
the
bright, white light of the world.
Shine
me, please,
through
prisms of poetry,
dewdrops
and
raindrops,
moonbeams
and mist,
Shine
me bright
through
darkness,
through
night,
make
me rainbows
and
moonbows,
sunrise
and sunset,
sunlight
and starlight and moonlight...
The
world is not black and white
and
white light
is
every colour of the rainbow.
You
are the light of the world -
the
bright, white light of the world.
Shine,
if you will,
through
prisms of poetry,
dewdrops
and
raindrops,
moonbeams
and mist,
Shine
bright,
through
darkness,
through
night,
be
rainbows
and
moonbows,
sunrise
and sunset,
sunlight
and starlight and moonlight...
The
world is not black and white
and
you
can
be -
and
see -
every
colour of the rainbow.
