This poem came as many
do, during the Moon hours…
I
sat up for a morning meditation and this poem surfaced, like a pebble, or shell
on a beach, ready for me to embrace for awhile before giving it back to the
universe. The meditation revealed my connection to poetry as witness, and the
connection to meditation and the Moon.
Mere Witness
by Krista Katrovas
The great seers, yogi’s,
poets,
artists, ancestors,
our mother Moon,
taught the
poetry of witness.
How to listen, to
watch
the great highs and
lows
within
and around,
like waves
created by our moon.
Where two
bulges of water
on earth
respond to
her.
When we face
her,
the pull is
strongest,
when we
face away
the pull is
weakest,
but both
bulges
cause high
tides,
we call
this
the
gravitational pull.
Humans
are
mostly
made
of
water.
Witness the
ebb, the flow,
the highs,
the lows,
the poetry
of witness.
Shoulders
begin to release
from around
ears,
like water
returning to ocean,
breath
softens.
We end up
residing somewhere
between the
facing
toward and
away,
in the
middle road,
where great
seers, yogi’s, poets,
artists,
ancestors, our Mother Moon,
accompany
us
as mere witness.

I love the idea of poetry as witness. I can feel and see this in my own poems, but had never seen it called this before. Thank you!
